Photo taken March 8, 2006 at a Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins National Hockey League game. This was taken shortly after the building was officially renamed the Verizon Center (as noted by the markings on the ice surface). Several bizarre things happened during this game including a pigeon landing on the ice during play and a fluke goal being scored by Washington on a dump in play from 150 feet away. The goal was featured #1 on ESPN Sportcenter's "Not So Top 10."
