Vinter-OL 1976 var den 12. olympiske vinterlege og blev afholdt i Innsbruck i Østrig. Oprindeligt var legene tildelt Denver i Colorado i USA, men bekymringer omkring finansiering og miljø fik indbyggerne til at stemme imod OL-planerne. Derefter bad IOK værtsbyen for Vinter-OL 1964 om at træde til igen.
Sovjetunionen blev bedste nation med 13 guldmedaljer. OL var på det tidspunkt kun for amatører. Sovjetiske og andre østbloklandes atleter var dog semiprofessionelle, da de fx var ansat som soldater for at træne ishockey. Derfor boykottede Canada og Sverige ishockey-turneringen[1][2].
