Forfatter/Opretter: Harry Rose from South West Rocks, Australia, Licens: CC BY 2.0

Introduced, warm season, perennial herb to 60 cm tall; densely hairy, giving a grey-green appearance; stem erect, with prostrate or ascending lateral stems. Basal leaves form a basal rosette; narrow-oblanceolate, 6–15 cm long, often shallowly lobed and petiole about 10 mm long. Cauline leaves are usually obovate to oblanceolate, nearly sessile and 2–5 cm long, with entire or shallowly toothed margins. Flowers are solitary in the upper leaf axils. The hypanthium is 2–4 cm long and sepals are 2–3 cm long. Petals are 2.5–3.5 cm long, yellow and becoming orange with age.

Fruit are cylindrical, 3–5 cm long and densely hairy. Flowering is from spring to autumn. A native of North America, it is naturalised especially on sands north of Sydney.
