Frankrigs provinser

Frankrigs provinser består af to grupper. Den ene gruppe er de 33 provinser, der blev erstattet af departementerne i 1790. Den anden gruppe er de områder langs grænserne til Schweiz og Italien, der først blev indlemmet i Frankrig efter 1790.

Selv om provinserne blev ophævede i 1790, så indgår de i nogle tilfælde stadig i befolkningens kulturelle identitet. I 1956 tog regeringen det første skridt til at oprette regioner, der skulle være en overbygning på departementerne. I 1986 blev der indført direkte valg til regionsrådene. Nogle af regionerne har samme navne som tidligere provinser. I en del tilfælde har regionerne dog andre grænser, end provinserne havde.

I listen nedenfor angives først det danske navn. Derefter det franske navn (med link til det franske Wikipedia). Derefter årstal for provinsens oprettelse. Til sidst følger provinsens hovedby.
