Eumetabola er en meget stor gruppe af vingede insekter, og danner sammen med søstergruppen Polyneoptera infraklassen Neoptera. Eumetabola omfatter størstedelen af Neoptera. Eumetabola samler de to grupper Paraneoptera (også kaldet Parametabola; insekter med ufuldstændig forvandling; hemimetabolisme) og Endopterygota (også kaldet Holometabola; insekter med fuldstændig forvandling; holometabolisme). Fælles for de to grupper er at larverne ikke har punktøjne (ocelli).[1] Det er stadig uklart hvorvidt Eumetabola er en monofyletisk klade.[2]
Eumetabola har et enormt antal arter. Således er mere end 887.000 arter kendt, fordelt på to klader: Holometabola (mere end 782.000 arter) og Paraneoptera (mere end 104.000 arter).[1] Ifølge en fylogenetisk analyse opstod Eumetabola for 390-350 millioner år siden, i sen Devon.[3]
