Blonde er en oprindelig fransk betegnelse for kniplinger fremstillet af naturfarvet silke. Navnet henviser til silkens lyse farve (blonde = lys). Efterhånden blev betegnelsen anvendt om kniplinger i alle farver. Nu bruges ordet mest om borter i forskellige fremstillingsteknikker, som efterligner knipling. De er ofte maskinfremstillede, men kan også være strikkede, hæklede, vævede eller gimpede. Materialerne varierer meget, ofte er det kunststof.

Traditional Maltese Lace-making. Maltese lace is a style of bobbin lace made in Malta. The ancient craft of lace making (maltese ‘il-bizzilla’), became popular in Gozo around the mid 1840’s and is a style of bobbin lace made using silk or linen thread worked as a continuous piece onto a tall, thin, upright hard pillow called a ‘trajbu’ made from straw and paper.
