Rivercourt - Arts and Crafts Cottage (detail). The cottage was built in 1923 on the site of the then Surlingham brickyard. It was adjoined by several kilns on the river side. The timberframed walls are decorated with broken bricks found at the bottom of the kilns. For a wider view taken several months ago see > 1358334. This charger is unusual in that it was decorated by John Pearson, better known as a founder member of the Guild of Handicraft in 1888. Prior to 1888 Pearson worked at William De Morgan's pottery works and it is believed that his later metalwork was inspired by his time at the works.
