Amerikanske flådeministre eller United States Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) er den civile leder af det amerikanske flådeministerium. Posten som flådeminister var en post i præsidentens kabinet frem til 1947, hvor flåde, hær og det nyoprettede luftvåben blev samlet under forsvarsministeriet og forsvarsministeren overtog posten i kabinettet.[1] Posten som flådeminister besættes ved at præsidenten nominerer en kandidat, som skal godkendes af et flertal i Senatet.
Ansvarsområde
Flådeministeren er ansvarlig for, og har autoritet til at varetage alle flådeministeriets affærer herunder rekruttering, organisation, forsyning, udstyr, træning, mobilisering og demobilisering. Ministeren fører tilsyn med bygning, udrustning og reparation af flådens skibe, udstyr og faciliteter. Ministeren er ansvarlig for udformning og gennemførelse af politikker og programmer, som er i overensstemmelse med nationens sikkerhedspolitik og målsætninger fastlagt af præsidenten og forsvarsministeren.[2][3]
Flådeministeriet rummer to værn: United States Navy og United States Marine Corps.[4] Når kystbevogtningen opererer som en våbengren i flåden har flådeministeren de samme beføjelser som sikkerhedsministeren har når kystbevogtningen ikke opererer som en del af flåden.[5]
Flådeministeriet
Flådeministerens kontor og de underordnede embedsmænd kaldes samlet set for flådens sekretariat. Andre medlemmer af sekretariatet er viceflådeministeren Assistant Secretary of the Navy (ASN), flådens jurist, flådens generalauditør, flådens inspektør, lederen af flådens lovgivningskontor og lederen af flådens forskningskontor.[6]

Flag of the United States Secretary of the Navy. It dates from at least 1865, and the version with four stars since at least 1867, remaining mostly unchanged since (though the anchor has gradually gotten bigger and been redesigned a bit). It is defined in naval regulations, document NTP 13(B) [1] section 1806, as:
- The flag of the Secretary of the Navy shall consist of a rectangular blue field with a fouled white anchor in the center. Four white stars flank the anchor, two on each side, all with one point of each star upward. A gold fringe is authorized for use on the flag when it is displayed in a static, indoor position. The cord and tassels are of golden yellow.

*Description: On a circular background of fair sky and moderate sea with land in sinister base, a tri-mast square rigged ship under way before a fair breeze with after top-sail furled, commission pennant atop the foremast, National Ensign atop the main, and the commodore's flag atop the mizzen.
