Yannick Talabardon, Gianni Meersman, Mickaël Delage og Pablo Urtasun var i udbrud til der var 14 kilometer tilbage af etapen. Bradley Wiggins var blandt de som måtte udgå efter kravebensbrud. Mark Cavendish vandt massespurten foran Alessandro Petacchi og André Greipel. Thor Hushovd beholdt førertrøjen.
