beskrivelse:
Pith helmets lay covered down before the graduation ceremony of Combat Marksmanship Course Class 01-10 at the Combat Center’s Marksmanship Training Unit Feb. 10. The helmets, called "elephant hats," were first issued to the 1st Marine Division while on deployment to Guantnamo Bay in 1940. It would later be worn by drill instructors aboard Marine Recruit Depots, until 1956 when it was replace by the “Smokey” field hat. Today the pith helmet is traditionally only worn to identify combat marksmanship coaches.
