beskrivelse:
The name Tissø on Sjælland, Danmark is well over 1000 years old and will probably be the god of war Tir or Ty in the Nordic gods mythology. Excavations took place here under the direction of archaeologist Lars Jørgensen in 1995-2003. Rich discoveries, among other weapons, suggesting that there has been a ritual sacrifice to the holy lake in the early Iron Age (Merovingians time - the Viking period), then one of Europe's largest ch richest settlements with the great man's residence, commercial and cult center was in the Western side of the lake of the same name as the site. Archaeological artifacts found at archaeological sites are numerous, showing import objects, and wealth, for example, is a necklace of gold at 2 kg. Lake Tissø was navigable by ships of antiquity, from the sea and along Halleby on to the port at the settlement Tissø. Chief farm in Viking times consisted of seven buildings on an area of 20 000 square meters. Hall building was 48 meters long and 12 ½ meters wide or 500 square meters, whose pole holes are marked at the bird tower at the lake. Trade stalls were at the lake and the river Halleby A large area of the pit house for short stays shows that this is collected an entire district for religious gatherings during pagan times. The place lost its importance since the Middle Ages began and the center of power moved to the other side of the lake, where the church was built in Sæby and Hvide family lived in a mansion.
