This picture captures a walkway stretching over the Sange River in the city of Sange, located in the Uvira Territory of the South Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The photograph was taken during my visit to this amazing place in 2020, when I experienced no inconveniences while crossing the walkway. However, upon my return, the river had swelled due to an overflow, presenting a new challenge for the local community. The young people of Sange took charge of the situation, implementing their own system of regulations to facilitate the passage across the river. In this absence of state intervention, they required a payment of 500FC from any individual who wished to access the walkway and reach the opposite bank.
