It has a sexual dimorphism: the male has two black pectoral bands (one more than the female). in this photo we have a female.

It lives both around fresh and salt water points and feeds on fish, crustaceans, aquatic insects and small arthropods. When hunting, it can catch multiple prey in one flight. It most often hovers before diving abruptly to capture its prey.
