The painting shows the Cheyenne and Arapaho attack on an united Kiowa, Kiowa-Apache and Comanche camp (a tipi for each tribe) at Wolf Creek, Oklahoma in the summer of 1838. A breast work protects the people in camp, made of trees cut down by the women.
