The principal director for the film was William Kennedy Dickson (d. 1935) with various contributions from Walter Pfeffer Dando (d. 1944) and Herbert Beerbohm Tree (d. 1917). The screenplay was by Dickson, and the dialogue by William Shakespeare and Tree. Thus, under the UK Copyright Act section 13B, the copyright term for the film expired 70 years after the end of the year in which either Dickson died (2005) or the year in which Dando died (2014), depending on the scope of Dando's contribution. In either case the work has entered the public domain in the UK no later than 2015. Having been published in 1899, the film in the public domain in the US.
