Harper's Magazine text accompanying this illusration reads:
"General Sherman's Campaign. - The Rebel Assault on Logan's Position in the Battle at Dallas, May 28, 1864 - Sketched by Theodore R. Davis.
Note that the source website misidentifies the general on the horse as George Armstrong Custer. In reviewing the reprint of Harper's magazine it is clear that this is intended to show General Logan. Note also that Custer was not with Sherman's army.
