Heraldic achievement of John Beaufort(d.1444), 1st Duke of Somerset, KG, shown in his Garter plate, St George's Chapel, Windsor. Blazon: ARMS. Quarterly, France and England within a bordure gobonnée argent and azure. CREST. (On a cap of maintenance turned-up ermine) A lion statant regardant and ducally crowned or (langued gules) gorged with a collar gobonnée same as the bordure of the arms. SUPPORTERS. Dexter, an eagle ducally crowned or, sinister an ibex or antelope argent bezantée attired hoofed maned and tusked or (the Beaufort Yale). HELM. (Argent and) Or, with mantling of crimson velvet on which may be distinguished two sprigs of trefoil. On either side in pale a large ostrich feather argent quilled gobonnée as the bordure of the arms. FIELD. The whole upon a field bendy or gules and vert and bordered with foliage.
