National Trust managed coppiced Sweet Chestnut woodland at Hindhead Common showing semi-mature sapplings that have sprouted from stumps (or stools) of trees that were felled several years previously. The sapplings, which are pole-like compared to the original tree provide a sustainable source of timber that can be used for poles and the like.
