A. Le Coq Porter
A bottle of Porter from A. Le Coq in Tartu, Estonia, at Clayhills Gastropub in Tallinn.
A. Le Coq Porter is a 6.5% abv porter. It poured a clear, red tinged golden brown with a beige head. It sported a malty aroma with notes of ripe fruits and sweet wort. Mouthfeel was medium heavy, silky smooth with a soft carbonation. The taste followed up the aroma with an elegant malt body, there were notes of toasted malt and ripe fruits but no roasted bitterness. It finished malty, with a fairly long malty aftertaste. Very smooth.
A. Le Coq Porter is a smooth and very drinkable beer but very different from the dark, roasted porters from modern craft breweries, it was certainly not a Baltic Porter (as claimed by RateBeer) but probably closer to a German dunkel lager or even an übermalty Vienna lager.
