beskrivelse:

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 76000209.

I thought A Block was for the hardened criminals - not so. I ended up going in there kind of mistakenly aI followed in after a group of people - but was asked to leave as it happened to be a private tour for Marines!! They were pretty nice about it and let me take photos before I left.

From placard "When the army built this prison in 1912, the flat, ordinary steel bars and keyed locks of A-Block held the Army?s minimum-security prisoners. WHen the Bureau of Prisons took over in 1934, they installed case hardened, tool resistant steel bars and a remote locking system in B, C and D blocks for greater security.

During the Federal Penitentiary era, 1934-1963, prisoners were almost never kept in A-Block. These cells were used for study, typing and storage".
