beskrivelse:
Mosaic of cupbears, 2nd century CE, from Dougga, at the National Museum of Bardo (Tunisia). It dates from the middle of the 3rd century and depicts a drinking scene: two figures serving drinks to two others, much smaller, from an amphora placed on their shoulders. On the two amphoras are inscribed the formulas PIE ("Drink!" in Latin) and ZHCHC ("You will live" in Greek). On the sides are two other characters bringing another amphora for one, a branch of laurel and a basket of roses for the other. This representation is a form of welcome for the guests and a promise of a good reception. The two slaves carrying wine jars wear typical slave clothing and an amulet against the evil eye on a necklace.
